Welcome to the Season of Giving 2014 Board of Directors Campaign.
For more than 30 years CNY RMHC has been a continuum of care for families whose children are seriously ill or injured. CNY RMHC works in partnership with Crouse Hospital, SUNY Upstate Medical University and St. Joseph’s Hospital Health Center to be included in the long and short term care plan for these families of neonatal and pediatric patients.
The CNY Ronald McDonald House is the only organization of its kind in Central New York and serves a very unique and specific need. Our CNY Ronald McDonald House provides housing for families traveling from at least 15 miles away from the comfort of their own home to ours. Our guest families, whose children are hospitalized with serious illnesses and injuries, receive a home-cooked meal, a warm bed, and a place to relax and rejuvenate. The House is also a haven for families to connect with other families going through the same things they are.
This year at the Central New York Ronald McDonald House we will accommodate more than 1760 family members; moms, dads, grandmas, siblings and children receiving medical treatment. They will be with us for an average of 5,850 cumulative nights stays, an increase of more than 2,500 nights since we opened our new home. These families have come to us from 48 counties across NY State, 45 other US States and numerous foreign countries, to access the best in medical care offered here in Syracuse. They need a safe and affordable place to stay close to the hospital while their seriously ill or injured child undergoes treatment.
We ask $20 per family per night which includes lodging, home cooked meals, parking, and key amenities. The average family stay is 6 days. For parents of babies born prematurely, the length of stay can be as long as three or more months. We are able to save our families approximately $1.1 million over the course of a year, a savings of $240 per day, per family of four in comparison to what they would pay for meals and hotels if they didn’t have the House and its services. No family is ever turned away due to inability to pay.
